Week 7 of the college football season kicks off tonight as the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns head to West Virginia to take on the Marshall Thundering Herd.

I am still on fire with my college football picks, especially my weekday picks (S/O Houston for recovering the onside kick last week). Over the last three weeks, I am hitting at a 69.4% clip, and with so many sports on at all hours of the day, I am so excited to give out some winners every day.

This is not a sexy matchup, and I fear that it might suck. Luckily, we do not care about how entertaining the game is, we just care about cashing tickets, and that is exactly what I plan to do tonight.

Anyway, let's get straight into the pick for this game. If you decide to follow our picks, we ask that you do so responsibly.

Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns:

The Ragin' Cajuns are coming off a 10-day layoff, which usually means that players can use that time to heal up and get their bodies ready for the next game. However, that is not the case for Louisiana as they will be without starting quarterback Chandler Fields tonight and starting running back Chris Smith's status for this game is unknown.

Things have not been going smoothly in the post-Billy Napier era for the Ragin' Cajuns, even when they are fully healthy. After starting the season 2-0, Louisiana has lost three straight, and they are one of the most penalized teams in the country, averaging 9.3 flags per game for 82.9 penalty yards per game.

Now, they have been fairly solid against the run, which will help against a Marshall team that likes to run the dang ball. The Ragin' Cajuns are only allowing 3.2 yards per rush, they are ranked 44th in rush success, 52nd in tackling, and the defense is 14th in finishing drives, which basically means they are a "bend but do not break defense." Their pass defense is only allowing 6.9 yards per pass and they are 48th in pass success, but Marshall is not a pass-heavy team, and Louisiana has given up an average of 7.2 yards per pass during their three-game losing streak.

The real problem with their defense comes inside the red zone. They are ranked 111th in red zone scoring percentage (93.3%), and although Marshall is not great at scoring inside the 20-yard line, I will take a very successful rushing attack over an inept defense in the red zone every time.

Marshall Thundering Herd:

Like Louisiana, Marshall is coming off 10-days of rest, but unlike their opposition, the layoff allowed some of their starters to rest up. After injuries in their last game against Gardner Webb, quarterback Henry Colombi and receiver Caleb McMillan are expected to play tonight. In the grand scheme of things, that should not matter as Marshall is not a passing team, but if I were a fan of either of these teams, I would prefer if my starting quarterback is ready to go, which is the case for only one of these teams tonight.

Anyway, the Thundering Herd has been one of the most inconsistent teams in the country. After beating Notre Dame in South Bend, they lost back-to-back games against an awful Bowling Green team and Troy, who is not bad, but a team that Marshall probably should have handled, especially with how solid their defense is.

This defense is only allowing 3.2 yards per rush, and they are ranked 18th in rush success, eighth in line yards, and second in finishing drives. They are also second in predicted points added, and they are just as dominant in the secondary as they are upfront, ranking fourth in pass success.

Marshall does not bring a lot to the table offensively, but former Florida State running back Khalan Laborn is fourth in the country in rush yards (731) and has eight rushing touchdowns in only five games, and the offensive line has actually been fairly solid at generating a push, but this offense still leaves a bit to be desired.

The Pick:

Marshall's defense is the best unit on the field and Louisiana's offense is going to be the worst unit on the field. Naturally, that should make tonight's pick easy, but I am not in love with the spread tonight.

The Thundering Herd are just way too inconsistent for me to be laying the 10.5 points, and both teams are solid defensively. However, Marshall's defense is a lot closer to being elite than most people realize. They rank 13th in total defense, are a top-20 tackling unit, and the Herd are ranked 16th in defensive line yards, 22nd in stuff rate, and No. 1 in havoc.

I expect Marshall to make life hell on the Ragin' Cajuns, especially in the first half as they try to figure out how to play against one of the top defenses in the country without their starting quarterback, and perhaps their starting running back.

I locked in the under at 48 a few days ago, but I am confident in where the number is right now. If you can also find Lousiana's team total at a number over 17, I would also advise you to unload the clip on that as this depleted offense is going to have a long day.
