Week 1 of the 2025 NFL season is here, and like every year, there are several storylines worth noting.

The reigning champions Philadelphia Eagles begin their defense as title-holders against the Dallas Cowboys in the season opener on Thursday. The Kansas City Chiefs will also be in action early this week, as they face the Los Angeles Chargers in an international match-up in Brazil. Then, a full Sunday slate and Monday Night Football follow, and football is back like it never left.

Aside from teams, there are several storylines surrounding players. Will Josh Allen have another MVP-caliber season? Or, will Joe Burrow, Lamar Jackson or another quarterback win the award? How will Defensive Player of the Year candidate Micah Parsons fare with his new team the Green Bay Packers?

Week 1 also marks the regular season debut for rookies. The 2025 No. 1 overall pick Cam Ward becomes the next franchise quarterback for the Tennessee Titans. Last year’s college football rushing leader, Ashton Jeanty, starts his career with the Las Vegas Raiders, and the 2024 Heisman Trophy winner Travis Hunter will be the first player in the modern era to attempt to play full-time on offense and defense.
