Detroit Tigers @ Seattle Mariners Preview

Detroit arrives off a hard-fought Wild Card series win over Cleveland, riding momentum but also carrying some fatigue and travel after that elimination game. Seattle, by contrast, has rested, has home-field, and enters with a full complement of rotation depth (aside from the recent Bryan Woo roster news).

In Game 1, Detroit is likely to go with Troy Melton (3–2, 2.76 ERA) in what may be a gamble with a rookie starter, while Seattle counters with George Kirby (10–8, ~4.21 ERA). The Tigers will lean heavily on Tarik Skubal and bullpen performance in later games, hoping to make Seattle’s depth pay in long relief.

Seattle’s offense, powered by Cal Raleigh (who hit two homers in a recent 12–3 win over Detroit) and Julio Rodríguez, is in prime form and can break games open quickly.
