It's tough being an NFL expert I imagine.
You see, one thing that's always struck me about sports fans is that we aren't really the most tolerant bunch when it comes to things we don't like to hear. It's not exclusive to NFL fans by any means, but when you read the comments under expert picks, it would be hard not to get disheartened. Let's take a few samples shall we?

This lovely excerpt comes from the Bleacher Report Week 8 Expert Picks page:

Bardeen says the chiefs would lose if these game were in cleveland he needs to quit..... seriously though hes an undercover browns fan. has to be

How '4real' are the Chiefs? Well, clearly real enough to warrant an impassioned defence of their right to exist in one's internet username. Anyway, look at the vitriol directed at poor Knox Bardeen. Why, I wouldn't be surprised to find that Bardeen handed in his notice immediately after the Browns were thwarted on a last minute comeback drive after pushing the Chiefs to the wire. How dare he outrageously suggest that Kansas City's home advantage may have been decisive!

What about this comment from MENSA lifetime member and St. Louis fan Kevin Hennig?

freeman is retarted he needs to shut the hell up. hes on obvious sea hawk fan. bradford is very good

First of all, far be it for me to point out that 'retarted' is not a word, or that 'sea hawk' is one word. Or that punctuation exists. No, instead, let's ask what vile abuse has Mike Freeman hurled at our hero Sam Bradford? What kind of vicious slur has he used against our infallible hero?

Freeman: Seahawks, 28-10

Sam Bradford wasn't very good, but his backup is worse and the Hawks crush.

How dare Mike shockingly suggest that a QB who has been patchy at best this year was less than proficient, and how unreasonable to suggest that his backup Kellen Clemens - who presumably is the backup because he is, y'know... not as good as Bradford - may give his team less chance to win the game. EXPERT INDEED!

Still, it's not as brutal as the CBS guys are getting...

Y'all ugly for picking the patriots over the dolphins

N'ewsflash Na'tasha: their picks on Sunday have nothing to do with their ugliness. I got your back guys. Thank me later.

Anyway...

In this world of dread and fear, where the only water flowing, is a bitter sting of tears, it is good to know that there is hope for every expert. In 2013, that hope's names are Ty Schalter and Jarrett Bell, who combined for the season't first 100% scores. Making this even more important for Schalter, he was bouncing back from a season-worst score of just 5 in week 7...

I don't even want to know how far I'll fall in @pickwatch standings: http://t.co/jxwcAmFKNU

Now this week was always a candidate for a 100% because of the 6 bye week teams, but let's face it, if it was easy, we'd all have managed it. No, these two showed nous in picking the Raiders over Pittsburgh, cunning in choosing Arizona over the Falcons, and flat out luck when Mike Vick managed to end his Eagles career in the first quarter against the Giants. FANTASTIC STUFF! (also get well soon Mike etc etc)

This week we'll be hoping for another 100% as there is another 13 game schedule. Last week over 70% of NFL experts managed 10 or more wins, the best score of the season so far, and with week 9 offering similar potential for consensus picks, this is where the experts cement their reputations. Apart from Sterling Sharpe, whose reputation is long gone.

Week 9's picks will be up tomorrow. If you want to stay up to date with all Pickwatch updates, then check out our twitter. It's a ludicrously good follow! Toodle pip!
