DUR DU DU DURRRRRRRRRRRRR! It's Monday Night Football and tonight's semi-dud matchup features the 49ers and R*dskins. Tonight is the last of a bad bad run for MNF as they embark on a 4-game run of marquee, playoff-deciding games. This is actually not as fun as watching Mike Tirico fail to hide his disdain for the quality of contests featured on MNF in recent years (see also: The Jets season-ending game 2012) as he fails to tow the party line and create artificial storylines and angles such as those that pervade NFL Network's Thursday Night Football...

Tonight's matchup features two QB's struggling to overcome the biggest hurdles in their young careers thus far. Anyone who has watched Robert Griffin this year knows that this is not the same guy who propelled his team to an improbable playoff run at this point last season. That makes Washington susceptible, because their - in some cases highly paid - supporting cast of receivers has been largely AWOL so far this year. Beyond Pierre Garcon there is no depth to this corps, with Santana Moss the next man up now that deep threat Leonard Hankerson is done for the year.

With breakout TE Jordan Reed out tonight, the 49ers seem a far better option than they did even at home against Carolina. That was one of those games that I wish I'd gone with my gut, because frankly the 49ers offence is in a state of flux too. I suspect - like most of the Pickwatch experts - that a trip to D.C. will be one that Colin Kaepernick and co. will be relishing, but lets not forget what the R*dskins defence did to the Bears in Week 7, making big plays and matching them in a slug-fest that resulted in a huge victory with playoff implications.

Can the Redskins pull off the upset? I'll be sticking with the 49ers and their own stingy D,

Karma will line up on Special Teams for the 49ers...

which - let us not forget - ranks 4th with 17.8pts given up per game. Put into context, Washington is 31st and gives up a faintly ridiculous 31.1ppg. The only four experts picking the Redskins are NFL Network's Mike Silver and Sterling Sharpe, ESPN's Merril Hoge and Josh Katzowitz of CBSSports.com. Of those 4, Katzowitz and Sharpe languish at the bottom of the weekly table and in Sharpe's case, near the bottom of the overall standings. Meanwhile, Hoge and Silver, although slightly more reliable overall and when picking the 49ers on the road, have .500 records when picking the 'skins at home. That's enough to suggest to me that we aren't dealing with a foursome who have the inside track on Washington here.

To put it bluntly, this one feels like a winnable game for the 49ers even in a slump. They have the best Coach, Wide Receiver, Tight End and Defence in the matchup, while pretty much every other category would be a toss-up. I don't think the Redskins will be ready for Anquan Boldin or Vernon Davis. Plus, they have Batkid on their side...

This one could get ugly.
